Ron and Sandi Hegenderfer have something more to offer than Mountain Meadows Cabins in one of the most scenic locations in our area.
I will be filing a more complete report soon, as there have been some very interesting weather patterns developing over the last 10 years, so watch this space! The photos included here show the Creek during an unusually heavy downpour upstream and above the Rim. Notice the difference between the "normal" shot of the Hwy 260 bridge and the "not-so-normal" version!
When it was originally built, the bridge opening was so small that it clogged very quickly with debris. The water had no where else to go but over the road and over its banks. Since that time, ADOT has improved the bridge considerably. Now when we get heavy rains, the water races beneath the highway much more freely. They still monitor the water level very carefully, though, and will go in immediately to remove logs and other debris, as the last photo shows. These State Guys are true heroes who turn out in the worst weather and under the most dangerous conditions... it's a very dangerous and risky job, but we can all breathe a little easier during hard rains.
